Meet your Social, PPC and UK SEO Expert Scott D Smith
Today we will talk with UK SEO Expert “Scott D Smith”. He is a founder of UK SEO Company and well known as SEO expert in UK and all over the world due to their hard work.
Hi Scott welcome to our blog and thank you for giving us your precious time. I would like to ask you some question for Beginners in the world of SEO.
1. We would like you to introduce yourself, and explain what you do to the new upcoming SEO and Social Media Professionals?
Scott D Smith: With pleasure. I kind of fell into the SEO industry as I started playing with websites in the 90s, with the goal of maybe this internet thing could pay for a holiday once per year. I built a mobile phone site and started to learn about internet marketing. I must of tried everything over the years and most of it didn’t work but a few things such as SEO, PPC etc worked really well and I was also very lucky to form online relationships with some amazing internet marketers where we formed an “underground group” to share data / ideas so our datasets where collectively bigger to help us understand the Google algo better
2. WHY have you chosen this field?
MScott D Smith: It kind of chose me lol, the mobile phone site really took off and I sold that, then did a few affiliate based sites and finance sites. Friends started to see what was happening so I did little sites and SEO’d / PPC’d those and a few people started to ask if I did this as a service so I thought why not and started a little site for it www.scottdsmith.co.uk.
3. How do you manage your personal and professional workload?
Scott D Smith: I feel time management is critical, one of my favorite tools is the ipad app from http://www.nozbe.com/ which keeps me organised. I also enforce time every week devoted to research, checking out other trusted SEO’s and what they are up to as well as the marketing tasks and running / growing / improving the business.
4. Which one is best for you, SEO and Social Media?Or do you think both are same and essential to learn for inbound Marketers?
Scott D Smith: I think the way Google is going they are now merging, yes you can get SEO results without social but those layers certainly help, and the added footfall / brand increase from social is worth it (if done correctly) on its own.
5. Which personality inspired you the most in SEO industry and which blog you follow the most?
Scott D Smith: Hmmm that’s really hard as I follow a lot of people, if I were forced to pick one, as an all rounder I would go for Rand Fishkin, SEOmoz.
6. Most of the new SEO Professionals think about the scope of this field. Please guide them what exactly will they achieve and if the field is suitable for them?
Scott D Smith: This isn’t a easy field but has many rewards for the right person. The part I found hardest is that there’s never a clear finishing point to any project that you would get in other industries, as there’s always more keywords to get to the top, conversion rates can always be improved, always new data to review etc. The most rewarding part is taking a business and playing your role and helping it to grow and seeing the impact that has for the business and your clients.
7. Please share some of your past and present SEO experiences, Ups and Downs and share little secrets of the trade?
Scott D Smith: Sure, my own successes I’m proud of are getting my own site on page 1 for terms such as “seo expert” – “search engine optimization expert” – “seo consultant” in the UK as I’m going against some very tough amazing SEOs in this niche. My biggest “up” was being informed that the marketing efforts had not only saved a small business from going under but they had moved to bigger offices, they are such a lovely couple that owned it, I was on cloud 9 for a long time thinking I’d played my little role in all that. The “lows” are when Google change the algo and you see businesses in trouble because of it, good businesses that shouldn’t have it, or when you see a great business getting negatively SEO’s etc.
8. How do you differentiate benefits between in-house SEO Company, SEO consultancy Firm and SEO remote work?
Scott D Smith: The way in which they communicate etc will obviously be different as the different ways of working, however I think the fundamentals should be the same, ie research of keywords / competitors, understanding the clients goals / data ie what is more profitable to promote / strategy, reviewing on the page factors and site management strategy, content, backlinking, social, etc.
9. For Beginners what do you think how much time will it take to grab all the essential things and work as a SEO professional and manage projects all by themselves?
Scott D Smith: I would say it’s best to find your feet on your own sites so you can formulate a winning strategy before considering gaining clients, and also structuring it in a way to provide you with data for the years to come because things do change and you need to stay ahead of these changes. Whilst I listen to a lot of SEO people I trust online, my own data is my most valuable tool. Once you have your strategy ready, then it’s down to a business set up of what you will do for what price etc so you can come up with deal(s) for potential clients. I don’t think there’s a set time to do SEO on a site because you could spend all your time SEO-ing a single site so it’s more how in-depth will you go etc.
10. In last, provide some expert opinion &tips to our upcoming SEO Professional what will they do in this field and how they can succeed?
Scott D Smith: The biggest tip I can suggest in test, test, test. Just because you find what works now, doesn’t mean a) it’s the best strategy and b) it will work tomorrow – so you must put time aside regularly to test new ideas on your own test sites and compare results to your other test sites. Lastly, enjoy it – SEO can be hard, Google can throw us a curve ball now and again, there’s consistent learning but every day I’m so thankful that the internet and the search engines exist as I get to spend my time helping businesses whilst earning a great standard of living for my family.
